George FM follow triple j

Staff Writer

We don't need proof that there's no such thing as a new idea in radio, but here ya go anyway.

triple j have been doing it for years with 'Like a Version', now New Zealand radio station George FM, programmed by ex Nova Sydney APD Willy Macalister, have started a breakfast feature called 'Damn I Wish I Was Your Cover'.

Just like the triple j concept, they get kiwi artists to cover top songs from the George playlist.

Although it is similar to triple j's concept, George FM say their inspiration came from BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge.

"They (the breakfast guys) were more heading for the Maida Vale Studio feel. Mostly because we can't cram a whole band into our tiny on air studio in Ponsonby," says PD Willy Macalister.

They started it by getting Six60 to cover Rudimental's 'Feel The Love'
