Gemma Fordham reveals “what a head of content does”

Former Assistant Editor

The latest episode of SCA‘s Leadership Series features Hit Network head of content Gemma Fordham.

National Drive host Kate Langbroek plays the role of host, as Gemma answers the question; “ever wondered what a head of content does?”

“This is my boss,” says Kate. “And I have no idea what she does.”

Gemma explains that her role means she “sets the strategy for the network, puts all the shows on air, works with the talent, sets the music strategy with the team.

All of that essentially means she’s responsible for “the overall sound of the station.”

Throughout the clip, Kate asks Gemma about how she got started in the industry, her time with as the PA for Nicole Kidman, managing relationships and working with challenging talent.

Gemma also reveals the core of her passion for working in radio comes from a philosophy of “do it if you love it.”

“I see working in the media as an absolute gift,” she says.

“I drive to work every day and I think ‘what an honour and a privilege it is to work in an environment where we get to talk to people every day.

“We entertain them or we play a crappy love song when they’re on the way home in tears because their boyfriend has broken up with them.”

A head of content is perhaps a program director, by any other name!

Hit Head of content by definition is responsible for 2dayfm ratings over the past few years.
