From 2Day ’til forever
Last week Abbie Chatfield rushed to the defence of fellow Hit Network radio personality Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes after a fan told Abbie that Hughesy is an “average white man.”
The fan reached out to Abbie saying they couldn’t wait for her to “eat Dave Hughes alive” because he is an “average white man.”
“Let me just explain something. Everyone is so mean to Hughesy.”
“I will defend Dave Hughes until the day that I die.”
The pair have been spending a lot of time together while they star in the television show The Masked Singer, with Hughesy also appearing as a guest on Hit’s Hot Nights with Abbie Chatfield last Friday.
“First of all, I take offence at the term, average man.”
“Hughesy works so hard… During filming [for The Masked Singer] he was doing his breakfast radio show and coming from that to set to film until 2AM.”
Abbie proceeded to highlight Hughesy’s successful 20-year career in Australian media and how he was the only radio host defending Abbie when she received bad press following The Bachelor.
“Just reminding you all, after The Bachelor, I went through the worst press day ever.”
“Every radio host – I’m sure there were a few that were kind of nice – but no one really defended me. None of them really said, hang on, this is really f**ked up you’re only getting a villain edit for being sexual.”
“The only person that said that was David Hughes.”
“So it really grinds my gears when people are mean to Hughesy because Hughesy has been nice to every single person I know.”
Hughesy joined Abbie and anchor Rohan on Hot Nights with Abbie Chatfield last Friday for the Celebrity Chat-E-Gories segment of the show.
Could we be seeing more of the Abbie and Hughesy featuring together in the future?
