Fifi, Fev & Nick help struggling local footy club to miracle win – with some help from Guy!

The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick have helped a struggling local footy club achieve something of a miracle – with Carlton legend turned radio host Brendan Fevola and pop star both Guy Sebastian pulling on the boots to help Dandenong Masala secure its first win in twenty matches.

After discovering the suburban Melbourne multicultural team was on the brink of collapse after a 229-point loss and with just two players showing up to pre-season, Fifi, Fev & Nick made it their mission to get the club back on its feet.

The team, which plays in Division 5 of the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA), proudly brands its game as “spicy footy” — but heading into the 2025 season, the fire had all but gone out.

With the show backing the club week on air all last week, Fev and Guy both joined the team for a match billed as the ‘Dandenong Superbowl.’

More than 2,500 locals packed Lois Twohig Reserve to watch the underdogs take on South Melbourne.

Fev kicked four goals in the first quarter and Guy played through the midfield until a late-game injury.

At half time, Guy even treated the crowd to a performance of his new single, Maybe.

After leading throughout the match, the Masalas faced a late charge from South Melbourne, but hung on to record a 7.13 (55) to 8.5 (53) victory, with Fev booting six of the seven goals scored.

The club reported a 600% spike in canteen sales and an outpouring of community support, with club President Billy Bolch hailing it the best day in the club’s history, amid several emergency runs to the shops to stock up on supplies following the unprecedented turnout.

Post-match, Fev said “It was unreal to pull the boots on and run out with the Masalas. The crowd was absolutely electric, and to help deliver their first win in three years – that’s something I’ll never forget.”

“This wasn’t just a win on the scoreboard, it was a win for the community, and a win for the underdogs.”

Listen to Fifi, Fev & Nick on Melbourne’s 101.9 The Fox from 6-9am weekdays, also on LiSTNR.
