Fair, dogged and loyal: RIP Peter Ryan OAM

Award-winning business journalist Peter Ryan OAM is being remembered as an outstanding broadcaster, mentor and loyal friend following his death last Friday after battling cancer.

Peter was the ABC’s Senior Business Correspondent since 2016, reporting for AM and The World Today, PM. He was also part of the ABC Radio National Breakfast show team.

Paying tribute on LinkedIn, former ABC News Breakfast host Michael Rowland said “If you wanted to know what was going in corporate Australia, Peter was your man. His contacts and record of story-breaking were unrivalled.”

“On top of his courageous journalism, Peter was also a generous mentor and boss to so many over the years, including me. He had a big impact on so many ABC careers.”

Friend and former colleague Matthew Abbott says Peter mentored younger journalists and volunteered with journalist charities.

“As a broadcaster, he was fair but dogged and as a friend he was terrific fun and as loyal as hell.”

“A total gentleman.”
