Eddie in the Hot Seat

Triple M Melbourne’s Eddie McGuire has landed in hot water after saying he would pay $50k to see Fairfax Footy journo Caroline Wilson stay under a pool of iced water and charge an extra $10,000 for “everyone to stand around the outside and bomb her”.  

As the story broke in Sydney media over the weekend, a week after it went to air; this morning on the Hot Breakfast in Melbourne Eddie has described it “friendly banter”.

With Triple M a major sponsor of White Ribbon, Eddie stated this morning:

“Anything that is seen to promulgate or to support – even in a light hearted manner – any form of domestic violence is unacceptable.

“That’s the big issue here. You can argue as much as you like about the tone and put in context and all the rest of it,” Eddie said.

“We have to be ever vigilant in stamping out anything that can be misconstrued one iota as supporting the abhorrent act of domestic voice.”

Meanwhile Caroline Wilson, the journalist at the centre of the jibes appeared on 3AW’s Ross and John saying:  “I don’t accept that it was playful banter, I’ve gotta’ say”.

With the pressure on, according to further media reports Eddie has now also formally apologise to Caroline Wilson on Triple M.
