Digital radio sales and listening grow

Staff Writer

Digital radio sales and listening figures have risen again.

In the first quarter of 2013 report from GfK Marketscope, 94,024 digital radios were sold, which means 1,250,179 have now been sold since the launch of DAB+ in 2009.

Listening figures from Survey 2 also show 12.3% of people listened to DAB+ per week (10+, Mon-Sun 12am – 12am), that's nearly 1.6 million people. Time Spent Listening (TSL) to radio via DAB+ is double the TSL of people listening to radio via the internet.

CRA's CEO Joan Warner said:

“The industry is very pleased with the continued growth and interest in digital radio. We have our special Mother’s Day offer promotion currently on air which we hope will continue the growth in sales.” (see more here)

In other news out of CRA, Ford now include DAB+ in the new Kuga, joining Land Rover, Mercedes, Toyota, Lexus, BMW, Audi, Hino, Jaguar and Isuzu Trucks to have DAB+ in selected vehicles.

Vehicle manufacturers report more than 14,000 vehicles have been sold with digital radios, although this figure is not included in the 94,024 reported in Marketscope.
