Des Foster’s amazing secret revealed in SBS documentary

Staff Writer

The late Des Foster will feature in an SBS documentary tonight.

Australia’s Secret Heroes focuses on a group of World War II commandos known as Z Force.

The three-part series starts at 8.30pm and the program blurb says: “After years sworn to secrecy, veterans of the legendary Z Special reveal their extraordinary WW2 exploits, as 6 of their descendants recreate their training based on original declassified manuals.”

Foster was the former general manager of 2GB and one of the pioneers of Sydney’s talkback radio.

He passed away last November at age 88.

Foster was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 1986 for services to media. He was inducted into the Commercial Radio Hall of Fame in 2002 in recognition of his lifetime commitment to radio.
