The Riverview Rooms at Perth’s Optus Stadium will be packed with mourners this afternoon, for a state memorial service to honour sports broadcasting legend Dennis Cometti.

Considered one of the giants of industry, Cometti passed away in March at the age of 76.

He joined ABC Radio Perth in 1972, remaining at the national broadcaster until 1985.

Cometti worked across several radio stations, including 3AW and Triple M. He also called VFL and AFL football games for Channel 7 and served as Seven News Perth’s main sports anchor.

7NEWS Perth Presenter Tim McMillan will host today’s live coverage of the service – which is due to start at 2.30pm local time – reflecting on Cometti’s extraordinary career and enduring legacy.
