“Danger” at the ACRAs
Triple M Melbourne’s “Dangerous” Dave Williams has been waiting a while for his moment in the sun at the ACRAS.
Nominated eight times as Best Music Presenter/Personality, he’s yet to make the long walk onto the stage on radio’s ‘night of nights’.
Dave takes the ‘always a bridesmaid’ jokes good-naturedly and unwittingly became the topic of a phone in during MMM’s drive show: the Rush Hour with JB and Billy. (Longest losing streak anyone?)
“Yeah, the guys did that. A lot of losers out there.
I think we’re up to number eight (for nominations) now. The first one was back in 1995, so that’s 21 years.
But I did win one, you know. Not an ACRA, but I did win a Raward, which was the pointy trophy. Best Music Personality at Sun FM in Shepparton in 1998 and that got me the job at the Fox”.
Dangerous Dave is jokingly known as MMM’s answer to John Wood: the Blue Healer actor was famously nominated NINE times for a Gold Logie before finally winning in 2006.
“Look, I’m not confident and in some ways I’m happy to get the nomination. You know what? It’s nice just to be nominated”.
“No really, I don’t hate losing every year. Really. I love the ACRAs for what they are – a chance to catch up with old radio buddies. And for me that’s the fun of going”.
Maybe this year, it’ll be his name that’s read out. And he’ll have to find some new material about being a winner.
The Australian Commercial Radio Awards will be presented on Saturday, October 8th in Melbourne.
