DAB Digital radio sales hit 71 million worldwide

The latest market report from WorldDAB has revealed that DAB digital radio sales have cracked the 71 million mark.

The figures, taken at the end of Q2 of 2018, saw an increase from 58 million at the same point of 2017.

The report drew on the latest statistics on DAB receiver sales, road and population coverage, household penetration and the number of national stations on DAB/DAB+ compared to FM.

DAB is also emerging quickly in 21 emerging markets, while key findings included that 60% of new cars are now sold with DAB+ in Australia (up from 47% in 2017.

“DAB digital radio continues to make significant progress in multiple markets,” said president of WorldDAB Patrick Hannon.

“Cumulative global sales of DAB receivers now exceed 70 million units. It is clear that DAB is established as the core future platform for radio in Europe and Australia. Our next goal is to see similar developments in Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific regions.”
