Cummins & Partners take out round 1 of 2019 Siren Awards

Staff Writer

Chris Ellis and Chay O’Rourke of Cummins & Partners have nabbed the single category award for the first round of the 2019 Siren Awards with their Reflex Paper ad.

The ad, entitled ‘It Always Looks Good on Reflex: Postman’, takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the aesthetic qualities of Reflex paper going up against an over-enthusiastic Great Dane and some petrified postmen.

Ellis and O’Rourke said: “Everyone knows the saying ‘It looked good on paper’, we took it to the next level, highlighting that the persuasive powers of Reflex paper are so strong, even the most implausible, absurd ideas seem feasible.

“This lands our protagonists in some humorous and ludicrous scenarios because, well…it looked good on Reflex paper.”

The creative team at Eardrum won the campaign category with their ‘Radio Alive’ campaign while Sound studio Sound Reservoir took home the craft category for some nifty rapid-fire audio effects on their ‘Make Cars Happen’ ad.

Director of the ad, Eardrum’s Ralph van Dijk, said: “We simply wanted to communicate that radio makes things happen.

This fast-paced sound effect-based framework captures the ‘aliveness’ of radio and illustrates what can be achieved when marketers utilise radio and all its assets.”

The 2019 Gold Siren will be announced in May of next year, with the winner collecting a trip to Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

A $5000 cash prize is also up for grabs for a client-voted award.

Applications for round 2 are open now and will close on 7 July 2019.
