CRA’s push for more digital radios in cars

Staff Writer

To continue the push to have DAB+ in as many places as possible, Commercial Radio Australia are holding a workshop for the automotive aftermarket retail and installer sector.

The workshop, to be held on Wednesday 20 February, will showcase everything this sector needs to know to help them promote and carry out the installation of digital radio in cars.

In the last year DAB+ now comes as standard in some new models at Toyota, Lexus and Hino, plus other manufacturers are including DAB+ as an option.

Commercial radio listening figures for 2012 show 34% of radio listening is in the car so CRA are keen to advance digital radio into that area.

CEO of CRA, Joan Warner, said:

“There are around 16 million registered vehicles in Australia, mostly with analogue radios; the DAB+ digital radio aftermarket sector provides a great opportunity for aftermarket retailers, installers and manufacturers.”

“The uptake of digital radio continues to climb and the industry’s goal throughout 2013 is to ensure as many cars and other devices include DAB+ digital radio.”
