Craig Hutchison apologies after private conversation airs on AFL Trade Radio

It’s the worst nightmare of any on-air team: a private, off-air conversation somehow goes to air. It’s a nightmare experienced by Crocmedia‘s Craig Hutchison and journalist Damian Barrett.

Hutchy has admitted to ‘kicking an own goal’ when a discussion about their next episode of The Sounding Board podcast was broadcast on NAB AFL Trade Radio yesterday morning.

There was nothing salacious in it and didn’t involve any swearing, but Hutchison has admitted it could have been a very different story.

After apologising to podcast listeners for the gaffe, he discussed the near-miss with Barrett and acknowledged it could have been a lot worse.

“Given how a standard five-minute conversation between you and I… we could potentially bag 20 or 30 people, I think we probably take the positive out of this.

“There’s not a lot of sympathy for either of us, too, I noticed on social media. That’s what happens. It’s a great lesson.”

While Hutchison and Barrett were left red-faced, Twitter users were a little more forgiving with one describing the incident as ‘the most interesting thing broadcast on Trade Radio for the past few days”.

AFL Trade radio can be heard here during the competition’s trade period.
