Counting down to World Radio Day

Reporter

World Radio Day is just over a week away – with Looking Forward to Radio’s Next Century the theme for 2024.

Held annually on February 13, this year’s event will celebrate 100-plus years of radio, shining a light on the past, present and future of the industry.

It’s a day for Australia to showcase its own diversified radio landscape, as stations across the country organise a range of programs and public outreach events to recognise the impact of radio in shaping our culture.

Vision Australia Radio has been among the organisations to acknowledge World Radio Day, celebrating the tireless work its hundreds of volunteers put in across its network of ten stations and five digital radio services, from researching articles to voicing audio books.

Next week, as part of its Radio 100 celebration, the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) will deliver three fascinating presentations on Australian commercial radio’s ‘golden days.’

UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) invites the worldwide radio industry in all its many forms – commercial, public, non-profit – to join in this global celebration.
