A community radio station on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales is leading the way in utilising clean, renewable energy to help secure its future.

A solar panel upgrade at Rhema 99.9 in Port Macquarie is now complete.

General Manager Werner Egger said “This will enable the studios at Rhema 99.9 to use clean renewable energy while helping cover increasing energy costs.”

“At the same time, we will be able to continue broadcasting into our local community, without the interruption of planned/unplanned power outages, due to having a back-up battery supply.”

A company in Laurieton first installed solar panels on the station’s roof around a decade ago, in return for radio advertising.

Over time, the panels had become inefficient. The station recently applied for a grant through the Community Broadcasting Foundation to replace the existing system, including the back-up battery.

The grant was approved and the new installation is now in place.

This month, the Christian station launched its November appeal with the theme  ‘The Best Is Yet to Come,’ aiming to raise $150,000 to support its radio ministry in the Hunter region.
