Check on your mates: Jimmy Smith opens up about men’s mental health

Reporter

On the Hit Network’s The Jimmy & Nath Show this week, Jimmy Smith spoke candidly about men’s mental health following the sudden death of professional golfer Grayson Murray.

Opening up about his own struggles with depression, Jimmy spoke about the impact of Murray’s passing and shared some concerning statistics around depression and suicide, particularly when it comes to men:

“You wear the mask because it’s nice to pretend you don’t have anxiety and depression.”

“The problem with wearing the mask is that the more you wear it, the more people can’t tell that you’re wearing it.”

“I f**king hate this disease and I f**king hate that it’s taking lives.”

“8.6 Australians die every day by suicide. 75% of those who take their own life are male. Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians between the ages of 15 and 44.”

“It needs to stop.”
