Celebrating 40 years of Tatiara Community FM Broadcasters
South Australian community radio station Connect FM has embarked on a year of celebrations, as it marks the 40th anniversary of Tatiara Community FM Broadcasters
Founded by local farmer and ham radio enthusiast Gordon Coad – the Bordertown-based station began its life as 5TCB, later rebranding to Connect FM.
Connect FM Managing Director Sardia ‘Scad’ Kakoschke expressed her sincere gratitude to every person who has dedicated their time and energy to the station.
“Your passion and dedication are the heartbeat of our community radio, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without you.”
“Thank you for not only keeping us operational but for creating an enriching experience that i hope will benefit generations to come.”
Acknowledging the vital contribution of the late Gordon Coad, Kakoschke said “I like to believe he’s with us in spirit, guiding us on this journey.”
“To Bev, his wife, who continued his dream after his passing and stood by the station during its most challenging times, including the rebranding to Connect FM in 2023 – your blessing and support, Bev, have been invaluable, and we are deeply thankful.”
Kakoschke extended special recognition to Franky, the station’s longest-serving volunteer.
Franky was the second person to be heard on air when the station began and currently hosts Connect FM’s longest-running program, Country Stampede.
“Alongside her, Nancy, our second longest-serving member, has been a steadfast pillar of support. Both of these extraordinary women have contributed countless hours and uplifted their fellow volunteers and the organisation as a whole.”
“Anyone who has had the privilege of working with you both would agree that you are extraordinary women and consider you station royalty.”
Kakoschke also thanked the local businesses, members and donors who continue to support the station.
Celebratory events are planned for later in the year.
“Here’s to many more years of connecting together!”
