2018 winner Kamin Gock

Entries are open for the 2019 Brian White Scholarship.

Commercial Radio Australia announced that the scholarship will once again provide an eight-week paid internship in leading radio newsrooms around the country for the eventual winner.

They’ll get first-hand experience working with news directors at Macquarie Media, Southern Cross Austereo, Australian Radio Network and NOVA Entertainment.

The winner can also choose Sydney or Melbourne as their base, and travel and accommodation is included if they live outside these cities.

“The Brian White Scholarship is a unique opportunity for final year students or recent graduates to gain first-hand experience in the fast-paced radio newsrooms of our four leading commercial radio networks,” said CRA chief executive officer Joan Warner.

“The winner will spend two weeks at each network, working with senior journalists and the wider radio teams on live and breaking news scenarios and helping to produce news and updates trusted by millions of Australians every day.”

The scholarship is named after legendary radio broadcaster Brian White.

2018 Winner Kamil Gock and 2017 winner Rachel Storer have both since secured full-time employment in broadcast media.

Entries will be judged by an industry panel this year.

The process will see eight finalists will be invited to attend a one-day workshop in Sydney where they will meet with commercial radio news directors from the major networks.

Deborah Clay (ARN), Michelle Stephenson (Nova), Erin Maher (Macquarie Media) and Natasha Jobson (SCA) will be on hand to give invaluable insights and feedback on their news presenting style and delivery.

The winner will be announced on 28 May, with entries being taken here.

The work placement will begin in July.
