Bowel cancer awareness ad featuring UK comedian Bill Bailey wins Siren Award

Staff Writer

BWM Dentsu and Cox Inall Change have taken out round 2 of the Siren Awards for their advertisement for Bowel Cancer Australia.

The winning ad, which turned UK comedian Bill Bailey into Bill Bowelly and urged Aussies to “give a crap about your bowel” was created by John Skaro, Phil van Bruchem, Rachel Blacklaws and Alex Walding.

“We had a world-class comedic talent performing it in Bill Bailey. Bill’s own mum died of bowel cancer, and he brought passion and poignancy to the job,” the creative team said.

“The recording session with Bailey – he was 10,000 miles away in a little recording studio in Swansea, Wales – was hilarious, inspiring and moving.”

Clemenger BBDO Sydney creatives Celia Mortlock and Ben Clare nabbed the campaign category for the “Ducking Autocorrect” ads for Dry July.

Entries for round 3 of the 2019 Siren Awards are open now and will close on 8 September 2019.
