Bay 93.9’s Mark Hyland to hang up the headphones

Reporter

After 28 years with Geelong Broadcasters, bay 93.9’s much loved Breakfast host and Content Director Mark Hyland has announced that he’s hanging up the headphones.

Hyland has made the decision to take a break from the early alarm clocks to focus on his surfing technique and spend time with his family.

He thanked the bay 93.9 listeners who’ve been a huge part of his life for the last three decades.

“It’s time for me to take a break from the early starts, and while I’ll miss the bay 93.9 team, our listeners, and our clients, I’ll still be around and may venture out of Ocean Grove from time to time and pop up on bay 93.9”

Breakfast co-host Lisa ‘Milly’ Millard says “I will miss Hylo enormously, particularly the Dad jokes and the laughs each morning, but I know this is the right move for him and I am fully supportive of, albeit sad about, his decision.”

Bay 93.9 listeners will have an opportunity to farewell Hyland, as his move to semi-retirement is still a few weeks away.

His final Breakfast Show on bay 93.9 will be on Friday 3rd May.

Geelong Broadcasters General Manager Rachel Patterson says “We will miss Mark terribly and will farewell him in the appropriate way in the coming weeks.”

“We look forward to the next phase of the bay 93.9 Breakfast Show (which we’re presently working on) and will reveal when we’re able.”

I was so not prepared for this ! Mark has been the spiritual leader at Bay for nearly all my working life, which has been spent near a radio. I doubted him when he paired as a co-host with Lisa but was very wrong- This has been the best morning crew combo that I can recall imo.

My family was shocked to hear this news but good things don’t last forever.

All the best Mark.
