Australian Electoral Commission partners with LiSTNR to launch new podcast

Reporter

With Australians heading to the polls on 14 October, LiSTNR and the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) have launched a podcast series to help people understand why referendums are held, and how to participate.

It’s been over 20 years since Australia last held a referendum, which means around 6.4 million people haven’t voted in one before.

The 10-episode Your Answer Matters – Referendum 101 podcast series will create a safe space for people to learn everything they need to know to get referendum-ready.

Podcast episodes are up to 10 minutes long and feature AEC spokespeople covering topics like the history of referendums, what a double majority is, mythbusting and what happens on voting day.

SCA Chief Commercial Officer Seb Rennie says the series is designed to educate and inform.

“This type of podcast series is a great example of how LiSTNR’s platform and SCA’s broadcast and streaming assets can be used to spread the word about important events in an objective way.”

AEC spokesperson Evan Ekin-Smyth says it’s one of many ways the agency is communicating with people in the lead up to voting day.

“What’s special about this series is that it provides bite-sized, engaging content in a safe space that people can easily absorb and share with their friends and family,”

Universal McCann Client Partner Rebecca Warton says “Developing a bespoke podcast with SCA has been the perfect partnership for this once-in-a-generation campaign.”

“The podcast is a great educational and entertaining guide, and the amplification across the SCA network is an incredible way to bring this podcast to more Australians,” she says.

The Your Answer Matters – Referendum 101 podcast is available now on LiSTNR and you can listen here.
