Aussie company have strong result in first survey

Staff Writer

Midway through last year we spoke with Sally Dobson from Resonate Broadcasting, an Australian radio company that own numerous stations here but have expanded into Hawaii.

Resonate is run by Guy Dobson and Rex Morris with Sally looking after the day to day operations and Keith Fowler on the ground for them in Hawaii.

In their first ever survey result, The Wave is #1 station for cume with all people under 65, and is also the #1 station for share under 50.

The Wave was also #1 18-49 with 13.1% and cume of 30.2, the next 3 places in this demo were filled by Hawaiian formats and Hawaii Public Radio. The survey rated 21 radio stations with signals on the island.

Meanwhile, Resonate Hawaii's other radio station, The Beach, had a soft launch only weeks before the survey and despite only being heard in Hilo, on one side of the island, it scored very respectable results with its younger male target island wide.

Last year, Sally described The Wave as "a mainstream Hot AC, broadly targeted under 40 with the core being 18 – 34" while The Beach was "a very "local -centric" alternate station. It is built around a mix of contemporary "jawaiian", surf rock, reggae and alt rock. The Beach is also broadly targeted under 40 but with a male skewed 18 – 34 core."
