Aiden Grant and the little podcast that stands out from the crowd

Reporter

“There are so many podcasts out there for listeners to choose from. Podcasts with big budgets, big stars and big networks. So the fact that my little podcast, that is all done by just me, can stand out and hold its own among the big dogs is amazing.”

96three FM presenter and former Life FM Adelaide Drive host Aiden Grant is reflecting on his recent triumph in the 2024 Radio Today Podcast Awards.

Aiden’s Songs That Changed You podcast was again the Indie winner in the Health and Wellness category.

“I work really hard to give listeners the best show possible and this award is lovely acknowledgment of that,” Aiden tells Radio Today.

Like all genres, there are literally thousands of faith-based podcasts to choose from.

Trouble is, many of them are simply repurposed sermons – the kind you hear in church.

What sets Songs That Changed You apart is that it features real people sharing their life accounts – and all in an informal discussion, centred around a particular song.

Each episode sees Aiden – who has a background in both Christian and commercial radio – joined by a guest to discuss a song that’s had a profound impact on their life and their journey in faith.

Since launching in February 2023, more than fifty bite-size episodes have been released.

Listeners hear guests’ personal stories of struggle in their faith, joy and adversity in life.

Aiden says because of this, they relate to and lean into the show as opposed to a dull lecture from a pastor.

If you’ve been thinking about having a crack at the Radio Today Podcast Awards yourself, Aiden’s advice is to go for it.

“If you’re a podcast creator pumping out a quality show, no matter how big or small, you should totally enter next year.”

“Except if you’re in the Health & Wellness category, that’s mine!” he laughs.
