Acast launches first original podcast series ‘The Score’

Staff Writer

Podcast platform Acast has launched its first original series, which follows the story of US bank robber Joe Loya.

The Score: Bank Robber Diaries starts with Loya’s abusive childhood and works through to him becoming a big-time criminal, and finally a former convict with a shot at redemption.

It’s the first podcast to come out of Acast’s new content development arm Acast Studios, and producer Ben Adair says he’s wanted to bring the story of Loya to listeners for a long time.

“I’ve wanted to bring Joe’s engrossing and jaw-dropping story to listeners for a long time — from his troubled childhood, to his crazy heists, to his powerful ability to transform and forgive,” he says.

Acast Studios is the perfect partner. They get exactly how to launch and grow successful podcasts, backed up by the might of Acast’s global network and tools for creators. We really can’t wait for everyone to hear this amazing story.”

Incredibly, Joe Loya is now a writer, TV writer and consultant, having working on moves including Ant-Man and Baby Driver.

“We look after over 7,000 podcasts around the world, and have been driving growth for shows from every genre since we started in 2014,” said Acast SVP of content Susie Warhurst.

“We have built up a deep knowledge of what flies in the podcasting space – the regional nuances, the trends, how to tell a great story and how to bring listeners in. Launching Acast Studios is the natural next step for us as we continue to develop even more tools and services in being the creators’ network of choice.”

The Score: Bank Robber Diaries will be released on November 12.
