ABC’s Unravel makes its mark in latest Australian Podcast Ranker

Reporter

The latest Triton Digital Australian Podcast Ranker shows no change in Australia’s top 3 podcasts, with Mamamia Out Loud still #1, ahead of Hamish & Andy and Sky News Australia Update.

ABC News Top Stories climbs back into the top 5.

One of the massive movers for June was the ABC’s award-winning True Crime podcast Unravel, soaring 47 places to #7.

Ben Fordham Live moved up 16 spots to now sit at #22.

Approaching the AFL and NRL finals, industry body Commercial Radio & Audio (CRA) says the Sports podcast genre is a prime place for brands to be heard.

Lizzie Young, CEO of CRA, said “Behind every podcast is a community. With 55% of Australians now consuming podcasts monthly, those communities continue to evolve, bringing together highly engaged and influential audiences. The Ranker maps that landscape and gives the whole industry a verified foundation to act on.”

John Kelly, Southern Cross Media Group’s Managing Director, Audio, said “LiSTNR has again delivered a consistent, and highly engaged audience, with five of the country’s top 15 podcasts, in today’s Triton Podcast Ranker results.”

“A significant number of LiSTNR’s Australian-made titles moved up the Ranker, including Dan Does Footy, Happy Hour with Lucy & Nikki, The Howie Games, 7News Just In, Big Small Talk, Triple M Rocks Footy NRL, Levels Podcast, Chat 10 Looks 3, The Rush Hour with JB & Billy, Bizarre with Mick Molloy and Titus O’Reily, The Grade Cricketer, 2Day FM Breakfast with Nath & Emma, Triple M Breakfast with Roo, Ditz & Loz, Vain-ish, Matt & Alex All Day Breakfast, and Lu & Jarch.”

“LiSTNR continued its commercial momentum in June, closing the financial year in an exceptionally strong position and once again driving the podcast market in Australia. Through a continued investment into AdTech and real-time measurement, LiSTNR continues to deliver outstanding results for clients and advertisers.”

“By combining the power of SCA and Seven’s assets, advertisers can now leverage unprecedented reach and scale across both audio and video.”

SEN had 18 titles ranked inside Australia’s Top 300 Podcasts, headlined by SEN Breakfast, which remains the nation’s number one AFL football podcast and number one breakfast radio podcast.

The result continues a period of significant audience growth for SEN, following the network’s recent GfK Survey 4 success, which saw SEN Breakfast record its highest ever audience share and cumulative audience, while SEN 1116am recorded its highest cumulative audience to date.

SEN Chief Executive Craig Hutchison said the latest results reflect the momentum SEN is building across every part of the business.

“These results are a tremendous endorsement of the strength of our content, our talent and our connection with sports fans across Australia,”

“Recent ratings results delivered record audiences for SEN Breakfast and a record cumulative audience for SEN 1116am, and we’re seeing that same strength reflected in podcasting with 18 titles inside Australia’s Top 300.”

“SEN Breakfast continues to set the standard as Australia’s number one football podcast and number one breakfast radio podcast. Just as importantly, it’s the only radio show inside the national Top 20, which highlights our ability to successfully connect broadcast audiences with our on-demand content.”

“We’re also delighted to see The Global Game enter the rankings for the first time. It’s a great result for the team and further evidence of the opportunity that exists to build passionate audiences across every major sporting code.”
