ABC suspends Morrow and Ryan

NRL commentators David Morrow (left) and Warren Ryan have been suspended from calling games at the ABC while the network investigates allegations a racist remark was broadcast last week.

In a statement to media, the ABC said:

"Pending the completion of an investigation into a reference made by Warren Ryan during the Roosters v Bulldogs NRL match on Friday 23 May, the ABC has suspended both Warren Ryan and David Morrow with immediate effect."

"Both have been asked to submit a formal response regarding the matter. Until the investigation is complete, no further comment will be made."

The station received listener complaints about the alleged incident and launched an investigation on Wednesday.

Ryan (right) is alleged to have used the term ‘old darky’ while Morrow is alleged to have found the comments humorous.
