ABC Radio Adelaide’s Stacey Lee hinted to be moving to FIVEaa

Adelaide is seeing some musical radio chairs too.

After two years on ABC Radio Adelaide breakfast with Nikolai Beilharz, it is speculated that Stacey Lee is departing the broadcaster and heading to take Jade Robran‘s afternoon seat on FIVEaa that she vacated a couple of weeks ago.

Lee and Beilharz took over ABC breakfast from Ali Clarke who now hosts the Ali Clarke Breakfast Show on Mix 102.3. The ABC will also lose Peter Goers OAM, the long time evenings host, when he retires on November 30.

It was a tight radio race in Adelaide for GfK Radio 360 Survey 6 with 5MMM No 1 and sharing top spot with FIVEaa on breakfast. Lee and Beilharz were third. Survey 7 is out this Thursday the 16th.

The ABC’s gain is 5AA’ loss. Maybe the breakfast show can now return to the lofty heights it used to know. 5AA’s lack of real quality can’t really be reduced much by her shift.

I am not sure what is taught at radio school because there’s a cohort of younger female announcers who drop their voices at the end of their sentences, and allow their voices to sound gravelly. Both habits are annoying, and Stacey, sadly, has both. Sarah Kanowsky is another ABC presenter who has an abundance of knowledge let down by her voice dropping and gravelling.
I love hearing clear female voices like those of Sonia Feldhoff and Deb Tribe, and dare I say former ABC presenter Ali Clarke. Carole Whitelock set a benchmark of clarity that seems to have been abandoned.
We’re not men. Our voices are naturally higher pitched and generally clearer.

So totally agreeing with Kay about women announcers taking on a gravelled voice. It is almost as off putting as interviewed guests using speaker phone, like they can’t be bothered to make the effort.
