‘ABC Gives’ this festive season

The ABC has brought together all its charity and fund-raising events under one name today to create, ‘ABC Gives.’

ABC Gives has been created to raise the impact and awareness of all ABC Radio fundraising campaigns across Australia under one name.

This time of year is traditionally the time where Giving Trees pop up in ABC office foyers all around the country, this year the national broadcaster has expanded and consolidated that charitable activity across its network.

All money raised by ABC Gives is funnelled into charity partners.

ABC Regional and Local Director, Judith Whelan said, “Over the past 12 months, we raised nearly $2 million through campaigns supported by our metropolitan and regional teams and our New Year’s Eve fundraiser for Lifeline.  Other charities that have benefited include The Giving Tree appeals in Tasmania and the ACT, flood appeals in New South Wales and fundraisers for Foodbank.”

“Australians are very generous in times of crisis and need, particularly in the lead up to the festive season.  This new focus will allow us to increase the support we give to Australian charities and in turn, support those who need help the most.”

The ABC is partnering with a range of charities such as Lifeline, Foodbank, Anglicare, the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels and The Giving Tree Appeal in the coming year.

An information campaign will be running across all of the ABC programs over the next two weeks and as part of its New Year’s Eve broadcast on 31 December 2021.

Donations will be accepted into early January 2022 to help Australians facing financial and mental challenges over the festive season.
