ABC get the vinyl out again

Staff Writer

Back in April, ABC Digital Radio held a 'Back to Vinyl' weekend. They are now bringing it back for a new years special, from January 1 through to January 4.

The inspiration for the 'Back to Vinyl' concept came after the death of the ABC's Russell Stendell who began his career at 2JJ in 1976.

Speaking of Stendell, Manager of ABC Digital Radio, Tony Walker, said "Not only did he know the music, he also knew about it. And not just rock and pop, but also classical"

Once again it will be hosted by a number of ABC Radio's biggest names, playing their favourite tracks off vinyl. Presenters will include Red Symons (774 Melbourne), Robbie Buck (Radio National), Lindsay McDougall (Triple J's Doctor) and Francis Leach (ABC Grandstand).

They will be joined by some off-air names who will feature their vinyl selections: Arnold Frollows, Stuart Matchett, and Holger Brockman, who played the first song off vinyl when the station launched in 1975 (Skyhooks’ 'You Just Like Me Cos I’m Good in Bed').
