8HA’s Renzi leaves radio

Staff Writer

A couple of weeks ago in our Moves section (here) we told you that Adrian Renzi from 8HA was leaving radio after 20+ years to work for the Ministers Office of Central Australia as a Media Adviser.

An article in 'Alice Now' has talked with him after leaving his 'Territory Today' program.

Here are some excerpts from the article written by Cameron Boon…

"The man who is arguably Alice Spring's best-known radio host has hung up his headphones after almost 14 years on the air"

Renzi says of his change of direction…

"I've been doing Territory Today for five years now, but in the 10 years since I've been back I've also been doing the sales and marketing side of things too. I really love the radio side of things but the sales got to be a bit of a grind after a while. That's why I've decided to do something a little different"

He recalls his favourite ever interview was with Bud Tingwell…

"…he had the most amazing voice and the things he was saying were amazing. The interview I did was probably only two or three months before he died and I felt really privileged to have been able to talk to him. It probably lasted about an hour….we just couldn't stop talking"

"I think you measure the big stories by what you've achieved," he said of one of his proudest moments in radio, when he helped stop a high-risk hospital from being built.

"We eventually succeeded in stopping the hospital through a lot of pressure on government and a lot of signature collecting."

He's up for Best Talk Presenter (C) at the ACRA's (see more here).

Good luck for the future Renz.
