4RO turns 80

Staff Writer

Rockhampton station 4RO will celebrate it's 80th birthday in a month, on 2 July.

4RO started broadcasting in 1932 and was Rockhampton's first commercial radio station. Today, the station is owned by the Prime Media Group and is positioned as 'news, talk and the music you love'.

Breakfast announcer Michael J Bailey (right) commented;

"we have many listeners who can remember and appreciate what this radio station has done for the community and it still strives to inform and entertain"

"My policy still remains the same: The door is always open from 5am, and I look forward to as much involvement from the listeners as we have had for the last 80 years.”

4RO will have an onair reunion featuring former announcers Phil Lentz, Cameron Syrett and a number of others. 4RO Station Manager Josh Favari said “It is fantastic to see 4RO reach this milestone, 4RO gives the people of Central Queensland a voice"

And of course like any good station they have turned it into an event that the local community can be a part of, and so are running an '80' themed tactic on the air. One listener will have a 1 in 80 chance of winning $80,000.

4RO's birthday is on 2 July, happy birthday!
