4RO turns 80 today!

Rockhampton's 4RO celebrates the big 80 today. It has been a long lead-up, with a lot of planning; see our earlier piece here.

However, whilst the station's official birthday is July 2nd, the party happened over the weekend.

4RO conducting an 18-hour live reunion broadcast with announcers and staff members from the station's past getting involved.

The list of names who joined in the celebratory broadcast was impressive; Phil Lentz, John Henry, Al Kirton, Ian Renton, Dave Gosper, Paul Amos, Paul O'Connor, Richard Monk and Wayne Clouten….and there were many more.

The station also conducted a draw with a listener having the opportunity to win $80,000 by picking the correct envelope from 80.

The draw took place from an OB at a local shopping centre (pictured), and luckily for the insurance company, the contestant picked envelope 36, and the 80 grand was in 67.

The celebrations continue on-air today.
