4GR’s Lizzy calls it a day

Staff Writer

After over 15 years On-Air in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, Marika “Lizzy” King is leaving 4GR’s Big Breakfast.

Lizzy announced the news On-Air this morning and she told Radio Today: “I’ve adored my time presenting in Toowoomba and surrounds and will miss radio dearly. Radio has been “home” for such a long time. “

Lizzy has worked on both C FM (now HOT FM) and for the last five and half years on 4GR breakfast with Lee Faulkner. Lee celebrates 11 years with 4GR today and Lizzy said: “Lee’s a great bloke, lives and breathes local, which is 4GR’s bread and butter. A demon on Adobe Audition, his skills and passion are a rarity. We have a very similar filthy sense of humour, so made the perfect brekky team – albeit, though, our best work wasn’t fit for broadcast.”

Lizzy also worked with Hamish Carter for seven year on then CFM and said he is: ” A consummate professional. A genuinely funny guy (despite the irrational love for Star Wars). I spent over seven years with him and we were nominated for a several ACRAs. Great bloke, understands radio, he’s patient, is a great teacher and has come a long way from being Hamish The Brave on SAFM.”

Lizzy also shared:“Being regional radio, I did just about everything during my time. I was literally thrown out of a plane (screamed and swore all the way down, so that made for some tricky editing for playback the next day, had live snakes dumped on my head, bathed in baked beans.

“We received national and international coverage for the world’s first McWedding, which raised over half a million dollars for the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation”

Lizzy is taking on the role of Business Development Manager at the Toowoomba Turf Club
