4BH on Survey 5 results: “We’re humbled and thankful”

“We’re very happy. We’ve just got to keep working at it.”

There’s no doubting ACE Radio CEO Mark Taylor is pleased as punch about 4BH’s Brisbane Survey 5 results.

But he’s told Radio Today, they’re not getting ahead of themselves.

The station, which transitioned to a Classic Hits format in May this year – giving disenchanted 4KQ listeners a new place to find their favourite music – enjoyed gains across the board.

Breakfast was up 2.1 to 3.2, a trend mirrored across all day parts. There was also a significant jump in listeners over the age of 55.

But ACE Chief Marketing Officer Grant Johnstone tells Radio Today, they’re not counting their chickens:

“We just want to remain humble. We’re so thankful that Brisbane has given us a chance. The response has been so overwhelming. We can’t afford to take anything for granted.”

Johnstone says they’re getting thousands of social media messages and comments about 4BH, the overwhelming majority of them positive.

“It’s gone nuts. The volume of feedback – it’s like nothing we’ve ever seen before in our lives.”

In July, BBQ Bob Gallagher was announced as the new host of the Classic Hits 4BH Breakfast, bringing an unmistakably Brisbane feel to the show.

Known as one of radio’s nice guys, Taylor says Gallagher fits the mould beautifully:

“He is so excited by the growth – and so passionate about what he does.”
