3UZ returns for its 90th Birthday
One of Australia’s iconic radio callsigns returns this Sunday in Melbourne for its 90th Birthday.
The Greater 3UZ
It will happen as Victoria’s racing and sport station RSN, who hold the original license will re-brand as 3UZ for the day. The glow of the old AM transmitter that started 3UZ was switched on for the first time on Sunday March 8th 1925, becoming Melbourne’s first commercial station.
All this week RSN has been honoring the Stars and shows that made 3UZ Melbourne’s highest rating station year after year. Stars like Stan Rofe, Don Lunn, Allan Lappan, Bert Newton, Graham Kennedy, legendary racecaller Bert Bryant – along with the music that made them.
You can listen to many of the 3UZ recordings here.
RSN has also released over a hundred photos from the 3UZ archives which capture the stars of the station, pop and rock celebrities, and the people of Melbourne, especially through the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
