3AW raises 170k for The Alfred

Staff Writer

This morning saw the auction of the first number plate in the new Victorian range on 3AW.

The plate, with the registration of 1AA 1AA, was auctioned on Neil Mitchell's morning show to raise money for the Alfred Emergency and Trauma Centre.

The auction quickly reached the $100,000 mark, and was finally sold for $170,000 to 'David' from the Yarra Valley.

3AW Morning Presenter Neil Mitchell said;

“The bidding was pretty fierce and we were all blown away by the final price.

The Trauma Centre does great work to help seriously injured motor accident victims and the money will go to a great cause.

1AA 1AA will be a genuine collector’s item and as an investment, the plate is likely to appreciate over time.

The last time there were new plates in Victoria was in 1953 – so the winner can now claim ownership to a genuine slice of Victorian history.”
