2CA help the kids
This weekend might be Mothers Day, however for 2CA announcers Leighton Archer and Larry Appley it will spent on the air supporting Marymead: a Canberra-based charitable organisation supporting vulnerable children and families.
Across this Saturday and Sunday Archer and Appley will take over the 2CA airwaves for a 24 hour marathon.
Speaking in the Canberra Times Archer said; ''We thought we would do something a little bit different to capture people's attention, we have been associated with Marymead for many years at 2CA and a long-time supporter of their events"
''We came up with this idea a couple of years ago and raised thousands of dollars, so we thought we would make it bigger and better this time around.''
2CA listeners will be able to call up during the broadcast to pledge donations to Marymead, and to request classic songs in return for a $45 pledge.
''Because Marymead is celebrating its 45th birthday, we are hoping people will request some classic songs and then pledge $45 for those songs" said Archer, ''If they request something really daggy though, that amount may rise to $450 – so Rolf Harris fans, take note.''
The broadcast will be streamed online at the 2CA website, and webcast. 2CA has also setup an interactive chatroom to communicate with Archer and Appley as the broadcast happens.
2CA has a long history with Marymead, and the last marathon broadcast conducted raised $7000. Appley said: 'It's not just about the money. It's also about highlighting the work Marymead does in the community, which not many people know about.''
The 2CA Marymead marathon will be on-air across this weekend of 12/13 May. Another great example of radio doing great work in the community.
