2AY’s Kev Poulton announces departure from breakfast radio

2AY breakfast announcer and Wodonga mayor, Kev Poulton is going to “do an Ash Barty” and finish at the top of his game, as he decides to leave radio for more family time.

Poulton’s co-host Kylie King is the mayor of Albury, and the pair are in the running for an ACRA as the best on-air team in a provincial market.

Kev says the addition of his new role as mayor and the demands of the breakfast show has left him little time to spend with his family.

He told the Border Mail, “I’ll be wrapping up with Ace Radio with 2AY and 3NE at the end of this year so I won’t be doing any more radio in the foreseeable future – I’m just looking forward to getting some time back with the family.”

“I’m a firm believer in doing what you do while you love it while you can do it and then when it’s time for someone else’s turn you’ve got to be honest enough to recognise within yourself that it’s time to give somebody else a go.”

Kev, who has five children, will finish up on the breakfast show at the end of this year and try his hand at family breakfast duties for the first time.

“Before my daughter goes into high school, before my youngest child starts school, I look forward to being able to spend a bit more time at home and helping my wife with the morning duties of which I have no idea what they are because I’ve never really seen what they are,” said Kev.

I’m always a fan of a heritage AM taking on big FMs, but I just looked at this show’s ratings and……well…..I’m not sure Ash Barty would think such poor audience figures equals finishing at the top of one’s game. Lucky Ash doesn’t have an ego, or she’d probably ask for an apology.
