2DayFM dumps ads between 9am and 3pm daily

Former Assistant Editor

In another move to differentiate itself from its Sydney competitors, 2DayFM has removed all advertising during the day.

2DayFM made the announcement on air on Tuesday morning that there would be zero ads played between 9am and 3pm daily.

Today the station confirmed the news on its social channels.

“Commercial free until after 4pm on 104.1 2DayFM,” reads a tweet from earlier this morning.

The latest move comes after Southern Cross Austereo made the call in January to overhaul 2Day’s music strategy, switching from ‘Hits and Old School’ to ‘More Music More Variety’.

Would love if they’d dump that hideous breakfast show in favour of an ad-free music-only format.

So this is setting a new standard where people won’t be hearing ads on commercial radio? Very very weird.

Not a great message to advertisers / clients. We don’t want to play your ads.

It is all unsold inventory anyway. Not desperate – smart. No one values MA placements – except maybe the fast food people at lunchtime.

The direct reps will all be grumpy – that is a heap of bonus spot placements going AWOL

Too many tactics RnB Friday’s, no commercials, Carrie and Tommy, breakfast changes etc etc 2DAYFM needs a cohesive strategy and some experience content directors and EP’s to execute it.

2DayFM is not going to switch the music strategy to from Hits and Old School to More Music More Variety. 2DayFM will keep the music strategy from Hits and Old School to Hits and Old School during the latest move comes after Southern Cross Austereo made the call in January.

During the non daylight saving dates 2DayFM will play the Hits and Old School workday between 9am to 3pm. At the start of 9am on Monday to Thursday 2DayFM plays 30 minutes of old school songs of the 1990s and 2000s. After playing 30 minutes of old school songs 2DayFM goes back to short advertisement before playing more current hit songs like Fox Hit 101.9 Melbourne and Nova 96.9 Sydney on Monday to Thursday. At the start of 9am on Friday 2DayFM plays 45 minutes of RNB Fridays. After playing 45 minutes of RNB Fridays 2DayFM goes back to short advertisement before playing more current hit songs like Fox Hit 101.9 Melbourne and Nova 96.9 Sydney on Friday. Between 10am to 3pm on weekdays 2DayFM will play old school songs from the year 1990 to 2009 and play another old school song from the year 2010 to 2014.
