When the rot sets in: New podcast investigates society’s bad apples

They were once hailed as town heroes.

However, the rot set in when they exploited their power to manipulate entire communities and prey on the most vulnerable. How did these abuses go undetected for so long? Why were credible reports silenced for so many years?

Delving into these questions is Rotten Apple, the new podcast series from 9Podcasts and acclaimed investigative journalist Camille Bianchi.

From Tasmania and beyond, this podcast series reveals the conditions these bad apples need to thrive across communities, and what happens to the whistleblowers who refuse to look the other way.

Bianchi says “It is difficult to fathom the level and scale of child sexual abuse in Australia, but we cannot overlook the incredible bravery and resilience of victim survivors and the whistleblowers who have refused to turn a blind eye – often at great personal cost. Their stories deserve to be heard and acknowledged, and Rotten Apple provides that platform.”

Rotten Apple is now available for streaming on all major podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts and Spotify, with new episodes released weekly.
