What Am I Leaving Behind?

What will you achieve today that will make a difference tomorrow? Will you realize a significant difference in you, or create an amazing difference for your family? Can you engage in a shift that will make a major difference to your life partner, or do something that will make a fundamental change in the way your child sees the world?

Exhilaration and excitement gradually disappear and become faint recollections of things that once were; they’re fleeting emotions. Feel goods, victories, and self-confidence can easily and quickly dull, and self-centredness is blinding and of course all-consuming.

What is it that does last, and is helpful; yet has a powerful and an ongoing beneficial effect for us, and for those around us? Isn’t it the activity of achievement and the movement towards change that will make the difference tomorrow?

Get something, anything done today; something that will make a difference (no matter how small) to you and within you, and by effect to those touched by you.

Achievement carries with it many things: fulfilment, faith, respect, self-respect, money, authority, wisdom, and love. These are the things that will sustain you long after you have finished, the things that will help you to continue to strive, and to keep on going to achieve more through the days to come. As you move through your day there will be things you will need to do, things you will want to do, and things you must do absolutely.

So do them.

Understand it is in the actual doing that hides the real investment of your daily accomplishment, and the real value of you. Take your focus off the benefit and the prize, and concentrate on the process of simply doing. Try to remember always that it’s your journey and not the goal of arriving at your destination that should drive you – try not to put the cart before the horse.

Ask yourself what am I achieving? What am I building, believing, knowing, creating, gathering, passing on, or improving? What am I leaving behind?

To know genuine achievement however is to know you must step up to the plate. It is about pushing yourself to the edge of your abilities and beyond, and it’s about embracing and stepping through your fears.

If we genuinely want to grow its inevitable we must submit ourselves to the unknown, and sometimes feel scared to death as we go; but we must confront that which makes us feel uncomfortable – such is the way of all genuine accomplishment.

We never get a second chance at a day spent in inactivity. Don’t waste this day.

Don’t blow the opportunity that has been graced to you.

Sell without regret.
