Vale Mike Drayson

Radio and voice-over industry legend Mike Drayson has passed away aged 71.

Starting his career in 1970 at 3SH Swan Hill, Mike was known for his trademark gravel voice that covered every topic.

He worked at stations including 3XY2SM7EXEON FM and most recently Northside Radio Sydney

Tributes are pouring in from the community as Mike is remembered as one of the best voices in the country.

In a post on FacebookRMK Management said, “If you wanted a BIG, deep voice, they just didn’t come any bigger than Mike’s – we’d muse he’d eat gravel for breakfast and wash it down with a whiskey and a smoke.”

“You’ll be sorely missed Mike.”

A celebration of life honouring Mike will be held at Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium, 10.30am, Camellia Chapel, Wednesday April the 5th.

Privileged to have had the opportunity to work with one of the great voices of my time.
Professional to work with an a great guy to be around.
My thoughts are with his family and friends.
Rip Mike you were one of the best.

Ray McGregor, Steve Britten, Mike Drayson rolled radio imaging work in the 1990’s like magic, and made it all sound so cool. Many men in their 40-50s joined radio back then listening to these guys. It’s so sad Mike has gone, will miss his sound, seems this style of voice work is leaving us, no one can sound like these three.

I met Mike when my partner and myself moved to Lane Cove. We drank most nights at the Great Northern. Along with the rest of the locals we had really good times. He was a friend who is going to be sadly missed.
