Tom Ballard leaves triple j

Staff Writer

triple j breakfast host Tom Ballard is leaving the station after 7 years to focus on his comedy career.

Tom started on triple j when he was just 17.

"For the past seven years I’ve been paid to wake up with one of my best friends in the whole world, talk shit, wear zentai suits, laugh at my dad, drink instant coffee and play good music," says Ballard

"It’s been the sweetest of gigs, but I feel like now’s the right time for me to try new things. This will give me an opportunity to focus on my real passions: standup comedy and not getting up at 4am. Thanks for everything, I feel extraordinarily lucky and I love you all very much."

triple j say: "During that time we’ve seen Tom turn 21, interview every comedian ever at Good Az Friday and become a worldwide Kewl Dude. Tom generously contributed to the nation’s fitness through Tom & Alexcercise, helped raise funds for East Africa (by eating gross things) and Syrian refugees (by singing in the nude) and regularly let his Dad Neil tell Australia what he thinks of today's music in the much loved Feature Album Dad Reviews.

"He has spent many an Australia Day counting down the Hottest 100 with the nation, thrown parties around the country for no particular reason (Odometer Party, anyone?) and some very good reasons (a farewell, a surprise welcome and series of 21st birthday parties), presented shows with guest hosts the Foo Fighters and Flight of the Conchords and consistently brought you quality Like A Versions each and every week."

You can read Tom's full farewell message on his blog.

Alex Dyson will remain on triple j Breakfast. They will reveal who will join him on Tuesday December 3.
