‘The Teacher’s Pet’ pips ‘Hamish & Andy’ for Mediaweek’s best Aussie podcast 2018

Industry publication Mediaweek has announced the winner of its Best Australian Podcast for 2018.

Walkley-award winning journalist Hedley Thomas‘ The Teacher’s Pet took out first place, ahead of PodcastOne’s Hamish and Andy, as part of the 2018 Mediaweek Industry Awards.

“In any other year a successful Hamish Blake and Andy Lee venture usually romps home on awards nights,” Mediaweek noted. “However they haven’t come up again something like the Teacher’s Pet phenomenon before.”

The Teacher’s Pet swept the 2018 Walkley Awards in November last year, winning the Gold Walkley.

The podcast explores the 1982 disappearance of Sydney mother Lyn Dawson. To date, it is the only Australian podcast to go to #1 in the US, the UK, Canada and New Zealand.

The subject of the podcast, Chris Dawson, was arrested in December 2018.

The Hamish & Andy Podcast was also hugely successful in its first year, delivering 40 episodes in the 12 months following the duo’s departure from the SCA Hit Network Drive slot.

Season Two is set to return in March this year.
