HOT 100

Another week another big change in the top 10; we’re experiencing a lot of movement here recently after the long reigns we’ve seen in the last few months. Biggest news of the week is Avicii achieving his second #1 of the year with Hey Brother. He’s knocked off You from local Nathaniel after two weeks at the top. Avicii – the man who held the second longest running single at #1 this year with Wake Me Up – has had a monstrous year on Australian radio. It’ll be interesting to see how Hey Brother fares among the string of hits crawling through the top 10. Most threatening of which is Eminem and Rihanna’s The Monster up from #8 to #3 in its third week. The Monster is the pair’s second release together, and has seen massive success internationally, #2 in the Billboard Hot100 behind Royals, #8 UK airplay, #4 UK singles, and closer to home it’s the #1 single on the ARIA chart. We’ll see if they can keep up the trajectory next week.

Young & Beautiful from Lana Del Rey and Cedric Gervais is up to #6 from #9 last week, and Guy Sebastian’s Like A Drum follows suit moving from #10 to #7. Katy Perry’s Dark Horse rolls into 9th place in its eighth chart week, and Imagine Dragons’ Demons has moved twelve places to #10 after a huge week of increased airplay on the major stations. Taylor Henderson has slowed unexpectedly after a huge debut last week at #18 to sit at #14. Last week we had high hopes that it’d follow the breakneck speed of Eminem who debuted at #17 the previous week, but it doesn’t seem so. We’re always hopeful that these reality show winners’ hype won’t die immediately but if we take Dami Im’s unchanged position from last week #21, it seems interest has gone stale quite quickly.

Further down the chart MAGIC!’s track Rude is up from #48 to sit at #30 this week after their hot shot debut and title as the Most Added track to radio two weeks ago. In similar form Bonnie Anderson’s Raise The Bar is up from #46 to #32 in its second week, it was third most added in the same week. Timomatic’s Everything Is Allowed was our highest debut this week, the track has been gathering adds for a few weeks now and has come in at #37. Soldier, the new one from Kylie Minogue Samantha Jade which took out #2 Most added this week has debuted at #43, just behind Ed Sheeran’s new position for I See Fire, #42 up 57 places from last weeks debut.

Outside the Top 50, Lily Allen is in at #69 with her new single Hard Out Here after receiving solid play across five major stations who forgot to report its play. John Butler Trio are back in action with their single Only One, it’s been a while since we’ve seen them in our Hot100. Elen Levon’s Over My Head debuts at #90, Alice In Chains’ Voices is in at #95, British India’s Blinded is in at #99 and Placebo debut at lucky #100 with Loud Like Love.

ARIA SINGLES

Eminem spends his second week atop the chart with The Monster. It brings Eminem’s all time total weeks atop the ARIA singles chart to 29 weeks! Avicii’s Hey Brother is #3 and Katy Perry’s Roar is still strong at #2.

Bastille’s Of The Night has jumped seven spots to #6 making this their second top 10 in the ARIA singles chart, following Pompeii in May. Guy Sebastian sits just behind them at #7 with Like A Drum, It’s up 5 places from last week and is the single’s third week inside the Top 10.

Soldier by Samantha Jade has debuted this week at #17, It’s the second single to chart from the X Factor winner and is the follow-up to Firestarter which peaked at #9 in July. Rude by hotshots MAGIC! has made its ARIA chart debut at #28.

ARIA ALBUMS

Dami Im’s self titled album debuts at #1 this week. The album features her current single Alive which hit #1 this month in ARIA singles as well as tracks performed during her time on the X Factor. Dami is the 12th Australian to top the ARIA Albums chart this year. Again Katy Perry and Eminem take out #2 and #3 respectively for another week. Salute, the second album from British girl group Little Mix has debuted at #4. It follows last year’s DNA which got to #10 in December.

Robbie Williams’ Swings Both Ways has debuted just behind them at #5. It’s the tenth studio album from the pop star and his second in the genre of swing. The album features collaborations with Michael Buble, Lily Allen, Olly Murs, Kelly Clarkson and Rufus Wainright. Nickelback’s Best Of Nickelback Volume 1 has debuted at #6 and is their sixth top 10 debut from six releases.

To no-one’s surprise ever Michael Buble’s Christmas has returned to the charts this week for the third year in a row. It’s topped the chart two years in a row around this time of year.
