HOT 100

The prophecy has finally been fulfilled: Pharrell Williams has his own solo Hot 100 #1 with Happy. It’s been a crazy twelve months for Pharrell with Get Lucky, and Blurred Lines being two of the biggest singles at last week’s Grammys – though some would argue it was his hat that really dominates (which now has its own Twitter; you may remember Jay Z’s lost hyphen got the same love). Internet nonsense aside, Williams has managed to dethrone John Legend’s All Of Me, which now sits at #2 in its sixth week in the charts. Fun fact: Happy is currently sitting on top of the ARIA Streaming and Singles chart as well as MusicWeek’s UK Airplay chart and #11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Spots 3, 4, 5 and 6 remain unchanged, respectively, Jason Derulo’s Trumpets, Magic’s Rude, Rudimental’s Free (currently #1 on Shazam) and Tiesto’s Red Lights. London Grammar have muscled their way into the top 10, sitting pretty at #7, up from #11 last week. Their single Strong was a huge hit in the underground late last year, sparking a five-track remix EP for the single. It’s currently sitting at #2 on the Shazam, great to see commercial radio embracing the tune. The recently-Platinum Swing by Joel Fletcher has outdone all expectations and leapt inside the top 10 (#8) this week, which is quite impressive considering the traditionally un-radio friendly nature of the track. Closing out the top 10 are Avicii’s Hey Brother and Addicted To You at #9 and #10 respectively.

Aloe Blacc’s The Man is feeling the benefits of another week of play: after debuting at #21 last week he’s jumped 8 places to #13. Alesso’s remix of One Republic is slowly climbing the charts again; after debuting at #25 last week If I Lose Myself is up to #19. A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera are on the rise after just about every major station added the new single Say Something last week, with it currently sitting at #24. We’re in for a lot more from this track if trends overseas have anything to do with it. It’s currently sitting at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the Shazam Top Tags. It sits right in front of Cash Cash’s Take Me Home at #25.

Highest debut of the week goes to Eminem and buddy Nate Ruess for their track Headlights. It’s hit the chart running at #30 and is the fifth single from the Marshall Mathers LP 2. Rihanna’s Jump follows closely behind at #32, and a little further down we get big debuts from Hardwell and Matthew Koma’s Dare You at #43 and Wild Heart by The Vamps at #46.

Another dance music debut enters outside the top 50: Fatboy Slim & Riva Starr with their track Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat. It was a huge hit on dance floors and alternative radio last year, taking out #51 on triple j’s prestigious Hottest 100. The commercial radio play comes thanks to remixes from Tom Piper and Calvin Harris. Clean Bandit has also debuted in the 60s, taking out #67 with Jess Glynne for Rather Be, while the biggest mover of the week was Aussie dance men The Aston Shuffle with Tear It Down which moved 25 places to #70 after last week’s #95 debut.

ARIA SINGLES

Pharrell rules for another week here with Happy. It’s been a big week for Pharrell (and his hat), winning Producer Of The Year for collaborative efforts with Daft Punk on both their album and the single Get Lucky at the Grammys.

A Great Big World & Christina Aguliera’s Say Something is up to #2 after making its top 10 debut last week. It’s now within striking distance of the top spot. Watch Out Pharrell! Off the back of topping the triple j Hottest 100, Vance Joy has jumped 29 places to #6 beating his previous peak by one place. It’s currently sitting at #10 in the UK singles chart.

Lorde’s Love Club EP is on the rise again, due to the triple j Hottest 100. Royals has moved up 18 spots to hit #10. Royals also scored Lorde Song Of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance at the Grammys last week, which may have also helped somewhat.

ARIA ALBUMS

Avicii’s True has moved up to #1 in its 20th week in the chart. It’s the first time it’s hit #1 and comes off the back of his mostly sold out Australian True Tour. Australian Crawl’s Greatest Hits has debuted at #4, the career-spanning retrospective from the ARIA Hall Of Famers was released to coincide with the 35th anniversary of their debut single, Beautiful People.

Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories has re-entered the top 50 this week at #16 following their Album of The Year win at the Grammys. The lead track from the album Get Lucky scored third place on triple j’s Hottest 100 and picked up Record Of The Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Grammys.
