Talk host to sue station over dismissal

Staff Writer

Back in June, Former 6PR drive host Howard Sattler was sacked from the station over his questioning of Prime Minister Julia Gillard about the sexuality of her partner Tim Mathieson. He is now taking Fairfax to court over his dismissal.

Sattler claims his actions during the interview were not serious enough to warrant his sacking and could have been rectified with an on-air apology.

He says the interview was arranged on the basis it would be candid and that Gillard "did not at the time or subsequently object" to the question.

Sattler says he earned $190,000 in the first year of his contract, $195,000 in the second year and $100 for each live read or ad he read.

In his claim, Sattler said he lost the balance of his salary (6 months), an expected three-year extension of his contract (based on a conversation with the 6PR managing director in November last year) and opportunities for alternative employment.
