Susie O’Neill prepares for 50m butterfly at World Aquatics Masters

Nova 106.9 Breakfast host and former Olympian Susie O’Neill is making her anticipated return to the pool in Japan today, marking her first international competition race since the Sydney Olympics in 2000. 

Susie is competing in the 50m women’s butterfly at the World Aquatics Masters Championships in Fukuoka, Japan from 4.30pm AEST this afternoon.

Susie is in Japan with Nova Breakfast co-hosts Ash Bradnam and David ‘Luttsy’ Lutteral for her solo race, as well as 50m mixed relay alongside the co-hosts and Nova listener, school teacher Kylie Fletcher.

The 50m Freestyle Mixed Relay with the Breakfast crew and listener Kylie will take place around lunch time on Wednesday, 9 August.

Ash and Luttsy will also undertake individual races tomorrow that are listed with times below.

The idea for the undertaking came about on-air after Susie pondered what to do to celebrate her 50th birthday. 

Ash and Luttsy convinced Susie to celebrate by competing in an international competitive swim meet – taking them with her. 

As a result, the Nova team will broadcast the Brisbane breakfast show each morning from Fukuoka, Japan, during the race period.

· Monday 7 August from 4.30pm AEST: Susie O’Neill competes in 50m women’s butterfly  – Event #13 / heat 27 

· Tuesday 8 August from 10.30am AEST: Ash Bradnam competes in 50m men’s freestyle – Event#15 / heat 64

· Tuesday 8 August from 10.30am AEST: David “Luttsy” Lutteral competes in 50m men’s freestyle – Event#15 / heat 80

· Wednesday 9 August from approx. lunchtime (time is yet to be released) – Susie, Ash, Luttsy and Nova listener Kylie Fletcher compete in 50m Freestyle Mixed Relay – Event #25 / heat 9

· Monday 7 August to Friday 11 August – The Nova 106.9 Breakfast team will broadcast each day from Fukuoka, Japan, from 6am-9am AEST*
