Social Scorecard: Radio’s top Katy Perry posts this week

Staff Writer

This week, all hail queen Katy Perry! If you didn’t ‘Witness’ this magnificent creature on your TV, on air or… anywhere… then where the bloody hell were you?

It was great watching coverage unfold on socials, but one  particular activation caught my eye.

The Hit Network went all out with their ‘Witness Katy Hit The Roof’ activation, shooting footage with a GoPole Scenelapse.

Most folks are familiar with GoPro’s – but you probably haven’t played around with a  GoPole Scenelapse…yet. It basically takes your video footage to the next level. Most likely you’ve seen it’s handy work while watching a doco that features some jaw-dropping rotating cityscape. All you have to do it switch on your camera’s time lapse and set the device. The rotating device spins up to 360 degrees in 60 minutes, so you set the angle and the duration to create a panning effect. Best part? Doesn’t need batteries.

As a producer who specialised in live social media, it’s really refreshing to see a network consider it serious business by  investing in tech toys for an activation. I had a quick yap to Chris Ledlin, Social Media Director at SCA, about the activation and the Scenelapse which was brought in from the US.

“We’re always looking for new ways to innovate across Digital and Social, in this case we wanted to turn the traditional media wall into something much more engaging for a social audience and what better way to do that then with Katy Perry.”

Let’s face it, taking the plunge towards technology isn’t just going to help you generate unique content, it will increase your engagement and reach. Haven’t convinced you yet? Then check it out and see for yourself.

Our top picks this week come from the Hit Network, KIIS Network and the Nova Network.

1. Hit Network

Hamish and Andy hosted a very special Katy Perry performance at a secret location in Sydney to hundreds of Hit Network listeners. Guests included Carrie Bickmore, Tommy Little, Em Rusciano, Dr Chris Brown, Brendan and Alex Fevola and Rebecca Harding.

She belted out five of her hits including ‘Chained to the Rhythm’, ‘Hey Hey’, ‘Save as Draft’, ‘Witness’ and ‘Firework’.

2. KIIS Network

KIIS 1065’s Kyle & Jackie O teamed up with the superstar to give six of her diehard fans the surprise of their life.

Kyle and Jackie sent six ‘Katy Kats’ to EMI’s office in Sydney. They were told that they were chosen to listen to some of Katy’s new music and were asked to give feedback to the record company. Little did they know Katy was not far away and watching their every move!

3. Nova Network

Smallzy chatted to Katy about what happens when Big Brother is watching!
